The Revolver Club - Record Store Day History
Record Store Day is an annual event inaugurated in 2008 and held on one Saturday every April to "celebrate the culture of the independently owned record store". The day brings together fans, artists, and thousands of independent record stores across the world.
A number of records are pressed specifically for Record Store Day, with a unique list of releases for each country, and are only distributed to shops participating in the event. The event began in the United States and remains headquartered there.
Record Store Day has official international organizers in the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany, The Netherlands, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Australia, and Spain.

RSD2017 - Official Aftermovie
Record Store Day Debuts in India. April 22 marked the 10th anniversary of Record Store Day – a global event that has been instrumental in fostering record culture the world over.
It also unfolded a new chapter in India’s romance with vinyl. The island city of Mumbai played host to the first ever Record Store Day in the country.
6000 records – both new and pre-owned – were sourced to meet the growing demand of music listeners who find comfort in analogue warmth. We wanted visitors – both old and young – to have a field day browsing through records of blues, jazz, rock n roll, country, electronic, Indian classical, Bollywood, and whatnots.
The daylong celebration was supported by Title Waves – a bookstore in Bandra, Humming Tree in Bangalore, and Piano Man Jazz Club in Delhi.

Karen Vaswani is a veteran graphic designer who worked with Lintas, Grey Worldwide, UTV and Ram Mohan’s Animation before turning independent. She has since worked with clients across sectors and taken several brands national.
A lead singer and keyboardist herself for a jazz/pop band called The Rocking Marmalade, Karen believes music transcends cultures and brings people together. Her design clearly coveys this philosophy.
"The globally celebrated Record Store Day has finally come to India and while all their poster designs across the world strive for a certain vintage rock look I thought ours had to be subtle yet distinctly Indian with elements that stand for music and rhythm and are classic and timeless but with a funky fusion twist.
So from the vibrant burst of colours of the smiling Kathakali dancer in the corner, to the characteristic Indian font complimented with Indian motifs, this poster says 'Hello India! Record Store Day is here to stay.'
Karen garnered accolades from world over for the logo she designed for Mother Teresa’s Canonisation held on the 4th of September last year. The Vatican, in fact, replaced an existing official logo with the one she designed.
Record Store Day 2018 - 21st April 2018
RSD2018 - Official Aftermovie
An impatient crowd surged into The Revolver Club purposefully as the sound of Nagada and Tuttari announced the opening of the Record Store Day event in the country.
A line up of live performances and DJ workshops provided a backdrop to day of crate digging and conversation.
The lineup for the began with a Hindustani Classical performance by Harsh Narayan on Sarangi and Nisarg Dehukar on Tabla, DJ sets by Rejoy Jos & The Spindoctor and live concerts by Siddharth Basrur & The Fanculos. An impromptu performance by Vasundhara Vee was a memorable high mark.
People in their hundreds spent the day jostling to reach every rack and bin in the store to ensure they didn’t miss their favorite albums or a rare collectible – or two.

Poster Designed by Sumit Roy.
Alumnus of MSU Baroda, Sumit Roy's practice is firmly rooted in the mural tradition of the art school and its concerns with the local context. Yet, he reinvents this inherited aesthetic on his canvases in a language that is boldly inspired by global, mainstream popular culture. He speaks for a generation of urban cultural practitioners who grew up in the face of globalization and corporatization.
The idea was to imagine RTJ, and celebrate the record store day 2018.
This was so much fun to make. Jude wanted to make sure that it had a "Bombay" vibe. I referenced one of Sudip Roy's artworks from his gramophone series as a backdrop as it perfectly aligned with the vibe of the record store.
The subtle placement of the "nimbu-mirch" was something I just really wanted in the artwork.
Jude was very excited about putting a house lizard in the artwork, because they rightfully own every house/shop in this country. The team had some exciting additions, and there we have it-Run the Jewels in Bombay. Happy LP shopping!
Record Store Day 2019 - 13th April 2019
RSD2019 - Official Aftermovie
The Revolver Club is on a determined mission to spread the Joy of Vinyl in India – and we have many allies. Record sellers throughout the country have kept the medium alive during the years when vinyl was eclipsed by Compact Discs and cheap downloads. These men need to be acknowledged - and celebrated by the growing Vinyl community. The third edition of our Record Store Day therefore was dedicated to the these vinyl heroes – the Recordwalas.
This year we had a truly unique program. In addition to the LP's from our collection we had 12 sellers from across the country bringing over their collections for sale.
