Tell us your Vinyl Story
I got introduced to the world of vinyl for the first time in my life because of my cousin who lives in Sydney. I visited his family's house and the first sighting of Wish You Were Here's iconic album art in all its glory just gave me goosebumps. I am a designer and cover art/movie posters have always had a very spot in my heart. To see album art being celebrated as the way it should, being felt and not being glanced at in those tiny mobile screens, just made my heart sway in an instant. That was the moment. I knew that from hereon, I was gonna listen and feel the music as the way it was always supposed to be. I became a vinylhead right there and then. So the first thing I did was to immediately drop all my travel itinerary plans, ditch my friends and go to a store to get a record player. One month later into this journey, I've spent all of my savings on some of my favourite albums already. :D
Which is the most valuable record in your collection?
Pink Moon by Nick Drake :)
Tell us about your turntable setup.
I have an Audio Technica LP3BXT Turntable hooked with an Amazon Echo Studio. But the plan is to get a better pair of speakers soon.
Any advice to people that are about to start their collection?
I'll tell you something that I felt after a very long time (ever since I stopped listening to audio cassettes) when I recently switched to consuming my music on a record player.
You look at that big and beautiful album resting in your library, you feel that urge to pick it up, admire the artwork, take out that record and play it. You listen to each and every song, the way it was curated by the artist, as it was supposed to unfurl, like a musical journey. As Side A gets over, you ponder, you absorb what you just experienced, perhaps trying to make sense of why the artist chose that name for this album, why that cover art starts to make more sense to you now. But the story's just reached its intermission, there's still Side B, waiting to either continue the vibe you've experienced or perhaps there's more drama and some twists waiting in store for you. Music just became livelier and more emotional than it ever was. It feels complete, sigh.
