Tell us your Vinyl Story
I used to live in a rented studio apartment in Bandra and a new neighbor moved in to the apartment just adjacent to mine; our living rooms shared a common wall. I saw them shifting in and he had a ton of vintage gear. I'm a musician and as he settled in, I could hear music leaking from his home and he could hear music leaking from mine. It didn't take long to ring his doorbell and introduce myself only to discover that he had a massive collection of records and every evening, he'd invite me over to his place. I'd hop across with a glass of whiskey and we'd listen to records, talk about vintage gear and styluses and plinths, etc. Reliving my favourite bands, discovering new music and first hand exposure to a new fidelity immediately drew me in and before I knew it, I was hooked for life!
Which is the most valuable record in your collection?
I genuinely find it impossible to pick one but if i had to, it's my box set of Bach's Well Tempered Clavier followed by Bill Evans', Chet Baker and Michael Brecker records, then Pearl Jam's Ten followed by Telefon Tel Aviv's Map Of What Is Effortless

Any advice to people that are about to start their collection?
Whenever you travel to Europe, carry an extra suitcase and reserve a day for vinyls. There's tons of record stores, markets and thrift shops that sell new and used records (in pristine condition and low prices). Take the effort to visit garage sales and join communities where records are likely to be sold. Veteran collectors give away stuff when they declutter, there's geriatrics giving away records because no one in their family values them, there's deals and discounts on online stores, so scavenge and keep discovering, keep scoring!
