Tell us your Vinyl Story
The year was 2019. My father-in-law was wondering whether his old vinyl records still worked. So I decided to buy a record player - the CLAW - it looked cool like a little briefcase - plus the cheapest option at the time (and probably still). I tested out his records - which all played fine - and kept one (Abba Hits) as my testing fees. :D I used the record player in a short film of mine, connected it via bluetooth to my speakers and used it to play music while walking around the house during the pandemic lockdowns. I re-discovered my dad's collection of LPs - which is probably around a 100 records. Laid claim to The Doors and Fleetwood Mac - Rumours from that. And then things went back to normal. I hadn't purchased any new vinyls until...
My sister visited from the UK at the beginning of 2023. And she wanted to buy vinyls. Bless her heart. We ended up going to Revolver Club's Jazz Kissa #1 at Abode. Revolver Club had a sale display there. My wife ended up gifting me Coldplay's Parachutes - a favourite of mine from back in the day. Then I ended up buying more records from Revolver Club's online store, in-store, from Abdul Razaak's footpath stall at VT and have ended up buying around 15 records in a span of 3 months. So I'm not a vinyl head but a vinyl hair. :D I've taken a pause from buying records - it's going to be impossible to convert my entire 400+ CD collection to vinyls - I'll just be buying records that I really really love and can listen to multiple times.
While vinyl has some cons - expensive, record maintenance, non-portable, flipping sides- the experience of sitting down and listening to an album the way it was meant to be experienced from A-B at probably the best audio quality currently achievable with gorgeous album art is probably worth the investment - at least occasionally in my case. :)
At some point when my crypto portfolio recovers I'll invest in a better vinyl player but as of now am happy with my 4-year old CLAW - which still works fine - hooked up to my Presonus Eris E4.5 monitors.

Any advice to people that are about to start their collection?
As a wise man once told me - invest in your collection first and then worry about upgrading your setup.
