The Story of Timex Watches
Timex is one of the most recognizable watch brands in the world today. One can find Timex everywhere, from digital watches meant for children and adolescents to high-quality luxury brands which only the rich and wealthy can afford, they are loved by all.
Established in 1854 as the Waterbury clock company, the independent business was responsible for the largest production of clocks for both the domestic and international markets.
The clocks were made from metal, which made the hands of the clock much more accurate than ever before.
Small, minute movements could now be seen clearly, the company’s innovation in clock-making was so revolutionary that even car manufacturers were inspired by Waterbury’s assembly line.
By 1901 the company had become one of the early pioneers of the pocket watch. Making sure the trains run on time, aiding soldiers in World War I, and settling disputes in the wild west, the pocket watch helped all, even renowned author Mark twain bought a few.
Timepieces were no longer fragile, they had now become durable pieces of work, that had become an important part of people’s lives. By the 1960s almost every third watch sold was Timex, due to the watch being considerably cheaper than the others being sold in the market.
Timex also became a symbol for independent women, setting foot in a man’s world, the company liberated the market with intricate designs that didn’t compromise on the brand's durability.
In 1977 Timex created the watch that would become its signature model, the Timex easy reader.
Since 1977, the company has produced 177 million Timex Easy Readers, making it one of the most recognizable Timex watches to date. Its simplistic beauty and practical design have always captivated the hearts and minds of watch lovers for generations.
At 168 years old, Timex shows no signs of stopping down, the watches that they made over 100 years ago are still going strong today, and their legacy will live on forever.
