The Evolution Of The Wristwatch | The Revolver Watch Club

Humans for millennia have been measuring time. A need to organize an active force that profoundly animates our world in myriad ways led to the discovery of sundials 5000 years ago. The Chinese, later on, came up with water clocks & later someone invented the Hourglass.
Subsequently, the birth of clock towers in the 11th century gave way to modern timekeeping devices, breaking out during the middle ages of Europe in the 14th century.
By the mid-1800s the art of horology was at its peak, watchmakers were driven by inventions, designing increasingly more efficient movements, while also miniaturising them.
By the latter half of the 19th-century, mechanical watches were ubiquitous: what began as an ode to the mastery of mechanical motion - a special movement - further endured as an emotion encased on one’s wrist.

Yet for decades wristwatches were worn only by women as a ‘montre bracelet’ & men preferred the pocket watch. It would take a war for the watch to leave a man’s pocket and be placed on his wrist.

World War I was the seminal moment when the wristwatch became both a strategic military tool and a manly fashion accessory. Even after WWI most of the wristwatch innovation was driven by the specific needs of men serving the military and taking part in dangerous activities such as car racing & flying.

Rolex, Omega, Seiko & Patek Philippe were the first to cater to the venturesome populace.
The next breakthrough came with quartz technology in 1970 which led to the development of new manufacturing processes. It made the process incredibly cheaper & more precise.
These technical marvels - as they say - have played a critical role in shaping the character of life & work in the history of mankind acting as financial investments, tools of war, and a reflection of one's personality.

However, the core spirit of the wristwatch is as intact today as it was during WWI. The legacy of the wristwatch persists as a piece defying the omnipresent digital fatigue.

Likewise, we aim to share our love for horology by offering a well-curated selection of quality timepieces with a focus on rarity and design.
