One of the most important watchmaking brands of the 20th century was Enicar. It was founded in 1913 by Ariste Racine and his wife Emma Blatt. The name Enicar was derived from reversing “Racine” a clever idea when they realized that the name ravine was already registered.
Initially working from Blatt’s house. They set up a factory in Legnau in 1919 and started making the first watches under the name Enicar. In 1934 Ariste jr joined the company and they started making their own movements along with using other manufacturers' movements like Valjoux and Schild. Their price-to-quality ratio was unbeatable.
Enicar watches have footnotes in the history of almost all sporting activities like mountaineering, race car driving, diving and aviation. Some of the most collectible Enicar watches are Enicar Sherpa guide, Enicar Sherpa Graph, Enicar Aquagraph and Enicar Jet Graph.
Enicar watch prices have been steadily rising and the above watches sell anywhere between $2500-$5000.
