Naatu Naatu Wins The Golden Globes

Naatu naatu wins golden globes award
It is a proud moment for Indians as S S Rajamouli’s Telugu film, RRR, created history by beating the likes of Taylor Swift and Rihanna to win the best original song at the Golden Globes Awards. The song Naatu Naatu is the first Asian film song to ever win the ‘Best Song in a Motion Picture’ category at the Golden Globes.

The catchy number was composed by M.M. Keeravani, who accepted the award in Los Angeles, for S.S. Rajamouli’s film RRR, which stands for Rise, Roar, Revolt. It is the story of real-life freedom fighters Komaram Bheem and Alluri Sitaramaraju, played by Jr NTR and Ram Charan respectively. The music of the film ranges from patriotic songs and romantic melodies to peppy dance numbers.

The lyrics of Naatu Naatu are written by Chandrabose and sung by Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava. Keeravani apparently wrote around 20 different tunes for the song! According to Keeravani, the beat of the song is 6/8, something not often heard from the West. This level of BPM (Beats per Minute), and the innate South Indian nature of the beats, is what caught the attention of the West.

Shot in front of the Mariinsky Palace in Ukraine, the song has energetic and fast-paced moves that have become a viral sensation on social media.

Choreographer Prem Rakshit composed almost 95 steps for the song and it took about 19 months for the finished result, which is a mixture of many dance genres including a cowboy routine, barn stomp, and some traditional Bollywood moves. TikTok and Instagram played a huge role in the global popularity of the song, as people got hooked on to the dance step and attempted their own versions on their social media.
