Wired Earphones gone? No, not really..

You weren’t alone when you threw your old wired earphones away when Apple released their Airpods in 2016. Soon enough, the market flooded with more and more products similar to what Apple released. With bluetooth earphones becoming increasingly popular among the masses, people believed that wired earphones were a thing of the past, until they saw an unlikely revival… and for a good reason.
For a lot of us, seeing the tangled wires with your earphones and the jack hopelessly buried under that mess, as we pulled them out of our pockets gave a sense of annoyance. That feeling of “here we go again” could never be explained better as we patiently untangle that mess before listening to the song that played in our head.

But then for a lot of us, that problem was gone for good when Apple released their Airpods in 2016. It was a revelation, and soon enough, almost everyone was either wearing an Airpod or a similar product. Well, ALMOST everyone..
There seems to be a revival for wired headphones in recent times. With celebrities like Bella Hadid, Lily-Rose Depp and Zoe Kravitz photographed rocking some “ancient technology”, there is an ongoing contrarian trend setting for corded headphones. From posting throwbacks to newer photographs there are numerous dedicated instagram pages attracting large audiences that admire the aesthetic, while offering philosophical and practical justifications.

From the exorbitant price of owning an Airpod to no charging concerns a lot of people seem to be embracing the good old days of corded headphones.
That’s not all!
There seems to be a pseudo scientific narrative about “radiations” that people usually associate with wireless pods. While bluetooth headphones emit non-ionized radiations, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) deems it as harmless to humans, there still happens to be a hint of suspicion amongst few.

But for those who don’t, it is still about the aesthetics! People argue that “Airpods seem to blend in your look, corded headphones remain true to the 90s Grunge vibes and 2010s Pinterest looks with an air of ‘do not disturb’ for the one wearing them”. For those who want to be in “their zone”, corded headphones still remain special in their heart.
