Wet Leg : A New Wave Of Indie-Rock

Wet Leg is a British indie rock band that has come a long way from where they started. The band is fronted by a pair of girls, Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers, who had been working on various music projects before starting the band. After spending the summer playing at festivals, they came up with a fresh plan: form a band together just for enjoyment, with no ulterior motives.
“I think there’s more authenticity if you’re having fun,” Rhian says. “If I go to a gig, I don’t want to see people doing a rock star act – sometimes it can be quite contrived and people think they have to be a certain way as a musician.”
Their debut single, "Chaise Longue", was released on 15 June 2021 earning millions of streams and video views. This particular track gives a good glimpse into what the band’s overall vibe consists of - seductive vocals, psychedelic guitar riffs, lyrics full of sexual innuendos, loud and heavy drums, processed vocals, and lyrics that are so blunt they’ll catch the listener off guard.
Their album "Wet Leg" features heavy, raw, and rugged guitars and drums, gritty basslines and chord progressions resolving into bittersweet choruses that keep the listener hooked in a way that might feel a bit shocking. To change up the pace a bit, they know how to kill it with their softness as well, as seen in "Loving You" with its wide array of harmonies and tones that make your headspace a little better place to be in than it was before.
The album is full of surprises, one of them being Rhian Teasdale's longest and loudest scream in the middle of a song that sounds hauntingly beautiful. Some have described their sound as similar to Post-Punk, while others feel that this combination of musical elements makes up the most unique, weird but wonderful sounds that the listeners have heard in decades.
At the 65th Annual Grammy Awards, Wet Leg won Best Alternative Music Album for their debut and Best Alternative Music Performance for "Chaise Longue", and was nominated for Best New Artist. With their unique sound and style, it's no surprise that they are gaining recognition and are becoming increasingly popular among listeners.
