The Rise Of Doja Cat

Today, social media has become the ultimate platform for any artist to promote their music. By just posting a small clip of their song in a reel, musicians are going viral, not only making them global superstars but also taking them to the top of the charts. One such artist who has mastered the art of going is Doja Cat.
Born Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini in Los Angeles, Doja Cat started her music career by posting her songs on SoundCloud, quickly gaining a following for her quirky lyrics and catchy beats.
Even though Doja cat had been making music for almost a decade, the singer got her taste of fame in 2018, when she released her song “Mooo!”, which made her famous as a viral meme, thanks to her clever usage of Gen Z humour. The song was a major success, eventually gaining over 100 million views on youtube.
Doja cat saw this as an opportunity to release her album “Amala” (2018) as a deluxe edition with three of her biggest hits, featuring “Juicy”, “Tia Tamera” and of course “Mooo!”. The album went from being a commercial failure to a chart-topping success, marking Juicy’s first entry into the Billboard hot 100 charts and also Amala’s entry into the billboard 200 charts.
The “Juicy” remix eventually ended up becoming the lead single for Doja Cat’s next album “Hot Pink” (2019), an album that spawned three hot 100 entries “Say So”, “Streets” and “Like That” which did not only set the charts on fire but also took over social media and reels.
All of this prepared Doja for what would eventually become her magnum opus “Planet Her”. Reels and social media played a huge role in making Planet her the success that it was. “Kiss me more”, “You right”, “Need to Know”, “Get into it (Yuh)”, “Woman” and “Ain’t shit” have all been a part of some of the biggest trends on reels, clearly establishing that the singer is more than just a one-hit wonder, with half of her songs making waves on radio, television, and social media.
Doja cat has come a long way from being an internet meme to becoming a Bona fide pop star. It seems that Doja Cat’s reign as the ultimate Gen Z pop star is just getting started.
