Tata Young: The Pop-star That Became An Overnight Superstar In India With Her Song "Dhoom Dhoom"
We live in a truly global world. Thanks to social media almost anyone from anywhere can become world-famous overnight. In India, Thai pop star Tata Young was one of the first artists to truly achieve this global breakthrough.
She made her acting debut in the youth drama "The Red Bike Story," which set attendance records for the Thai film industry, in 1997. At the Fourth Annual Blockbuster Entertainment Awards 1997, she received the "Best Actress Award (Thailand)" in recognition of her acting debut. She followed that up with O-Negative and Plai Tien, two more successful movies.
Apart from her acting career, Tata Young was already being noticed for her song “Sexy Naughty Bitchy” which aired frequently on Channel V. However, it was “Dhoom Dhoom”, her English version of the title track from the film Dhoom which put her on top of the charts in India.
Rapidly making its way onto everyone’s playlists in the country, Dhoom Dhoom made Tata Young one of the first foreign pop artists to make India dance to her tune.
While it is much more common to have a global chart-topping sensation with the advent of YouTube and Instagram reels, none have had the impact that Tata Young has had.
