Tashan: How Vishal-Shekhar Brought Alternative Rock To Bollywood

The year was 2008. The soundtrack of Tashan was at the top of the charts, Vishal-Shekhar at the peak of their career.
While most people remember the viral hits “Dil Dance Maare”, and “Challiya” in which Kareena Kapoor revealed her size zero figure, the real highlight of the album were two other songs that did not get as much attention yet were just as influential.
With Tashan Vishal Dadlani channeled his roots in Pentagram to create “Tashan Main” and “Dil Haara.”
Two songs which are a perfect fusion of both Bollywood and alternative rock. While most music of this sort tends to emphasize on the former, Vishal made absolutely no comprise.
He brought some of the hardest rocking riffs into mainstream Bollywood music that can easily be compared to some of the best bands in the genre.
The music serves as a precursor to bands like Pineapple express, Thaikkudam Bridge and Bloodywood who have created an entire genre out of this style, proving that Tashan’s soundtrack has an important place in the history of Contemporary Indian music.
