Rega, renowned for its award-winning turntables, has launched an innovative initiative called the Green Grade program.
This program, inspired by sustainability and reducing waste, aims to offer high-quality turntables at a reduced price by repurposing cosmetically damaged parts.
Traditionally, Rega would discard any defective parts received from its extensive network of suppliers. However, with the Green Grade scheme, these imperfect parts are now repurposed into special Green Grade products. These products only use components with superficial damage, ensuring that performance remains unaffected.
To assure consumers, each Green Grade product comes with a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects, showcasing Rega’s dedication to quality and reliability.
At the forefront of this initiative are the Planar 1 Eco Deck and Planar 1 Plus Eco Deck. These units incorporate a mix of Planar 1 and Planar 1 Plus plinths, featuring minor imperfections like scratches or outdated finishes.
Equipped with ‘A’ grade Carbon cartridges and adorned with an Eco lid badge, these turntables proudly display the Rega Green Grade logo on their outer cartons, symbolizing their eco-friendly nature.
Despite the eco-conscious manufacturing process, each turntable undergoes rigorous testing to meet Rega’s high-quality standards, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
In terms of pricing, the Green Grade Planar 1 is available for ₹ 26,500, a significant reduction from the regular ₹ 36,000; while the Green Grade Planar 1 Plus is offered at ₹ 33,500, down from the standard ₹ 55,000.
Both the Planar 1 and Planar 1 Plus have received accolades, with the former winning the 2022 What Hi-Fi? Award and the latter earning a five-star rating from What Hi-Fi?.
By repurposing imperfect components, Rega not only reduces waste but also makes high-quality audio more accessible to enthusiasts. It’s a win-win!
