Pro-Ject's Legendary Collaboration With Metallica
In a time when heavy metal bands treat their latest albums to super-elaborate vinyl releases, Metallica is raising the bar by announcing their customized turntable for vinyl lovers. They have partnered with Austrian hi-fi company Pro-Ject Audio Systems to come up with an aggressive, metal-themed turntable modeled after the band’s ‘ninja star’ logo.
Those who are familiar with Pro-Ject turntables might be aware that they sometimes partner for some pretty cool one-off designs and collaborations. Pro-Ject's Artist Series has previously launched turntables inspired by the Rolling Stones, The Beatles and more.
The turntable’s plinth is made from heavy, non-resonant MDF material that’s typical of what can be found in several of Pro-Ject’s high-end turntables. In the shape of the famous Metallica symbol, and looking like it could have your hand off if you weren't careful, the turntable boasts a diamond-cut aluminum sub-platter and electronic speed change.
The 8.6 inch S-shaped tone-arm has a detachable headshell and it also comes with a pre-installed pick it S2 C integrated cartridge. Known and loved by DJs and audiophiles alike, the cartridge is based on the popular Ortofon Concorde plug-and-play design, which is easy to install and change. This deck also comes with fully adjustable tracking force, anti-skating and VTA which is ideal for fine-tuning and position.
It also follows Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett's recent Jim Dunlop signature wah pedal. The pedal made headlines after one buyer noticed that Hammett actually printed his 11 favorite Metallica wah-based guitar solos on the bottom of it, which is absolutely clever marketing.
Premium semi-symmetrical phono cable with integrated grounding wire, gold-plated RCA connectors and many more features like these make this deck truly the best audiophile investment. According to Pro-Ject, the Metallica Turntable will soon be available for $1,599 in limited quantities but its release date is yet to be announced.
