ISRO Makes History Again! Chandrayaan 3 Beomes The First Mission To Successfully Land On The Lunar South Pole

Congratulations to us all. We’re over the moon!
The Vikram lander just touched down on the moon’s south pole. A truly remarkable achievement. The fourth country in the world to achieve a moon landing, and the first on its Southern pole.
We salute everyone at ISRO. This moment is a culmination of years of dedication and commitment to taking India to the forefront of space exploration.
ISRO has delivered phenomenal milestones since its inception in 1969.
Aryabhatta Satelite (1975); SLV-3 Launch (1980); Rohini Satelite (1983); The SITE (1984); ASLV (1987); PSLV (1992); INSAT-2D (1993); Chandrayaan-1, India's first lunar probe (2008); Mangalyaan, India's first interplanetary mission, entering Mars' orbit (2014); PSLV-C37 - launching 104 satellites in a single mission (2016); Chandrayaan-2 (2019) and now the Chandrayaan-3 - it's simply incredible.
ISRO's latest effort, the Chandrayaan-3 includes the Vikram lander and Pragyan rover, similar to those of the Chandrayaan-2. The propulsion module helps move the lander and rover to a lunar orbit that's 100 km above the surface.

The lander features landing legs and thrusters for a controlled lunar landing; while the rover carries an array of scientific instruments for on-site analysis.
Chandrayaan-3 has some serious goals. It will analyze the lunar surface composition, identify water ice presence in the lunar soil, investigate into lunar impact history, and study the Moon's atmosphere evolution.

Lifted off on July 14, 2023, from the iconic Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh, India, Chandrayaan-3 successfully got itself into lunar orbit on August 5, 2023.
After a series of Lunar Bound Maneuvers, the Vikram lander set off on its own on August 17, 2023. It left the propulsion module and started its trip down to the Moon.

The rover will now disconnect from the bottom of the lander and head out onto the surface of the Moon. Utilizing one of its side panels, the rover will navigate its descent onto the Moon's surface. Another historical milestone.
