8 Years Of Currents

'Currents' by Tame lmpala, the solo project of the Australian musician Kevin Parker, is one of the most well-known alternative albums of the 2010s.
It has also received critical acclaim for its blend of psychedelic rock, R&B, 80s synth-pop and disco, cementing Tame Impala’s status as one of the forerunners of the genre.
Parker aimed to "attempt to abandon the rules that I've set up in the past," when creating the album, experimenting with R&B and pop which he used to avoid.
He stated, "Currents was about a deep feeling of transition in your psyche, or, in a broad sense, fully entering adulthood". It has been considered a breakup album as he broke up with his girlfriend, Melody Prochet, before recording the album’s tracks.
This is shown in the lyrics, which address Parker’s feelings of heartbreak and loneliness. Songs like ‘The Less I Know The Better’, ‘Let It Happen’ and ‘’Cause I’m A Man’ were praised for their mature, confessional lyrics and sleek production.
The track ‘New Person, Same Old Mistakes’ was covered by pop superstar Rihanna on the deluxe edition of her 2016 album Anti.
Currents reached number one in the band’s home country of Australia and reached the top 10 in the United Kingdom. It reached number four on the Billboard 200 in the United States.
In September 2015, the UK launched its first Progressive Albums Chart and declared that Currents would be the chart’s first number one.

Eight years later, it is still considered a classic in the world of Alternative, Modern Rock and Neo-Psychedelia.
