Singer Anaida Goes Spiritual | Artist Shoutout

You would surely remember her as the ‘Oova Oova’ girl and for songs such as O Malu Malu, Oonchi Neechi, Kaachi Kali and Diwani Diwani, to name a few.

A Parsee/Zoroastrian of Indian-Greek-Iranian heritage, Anaida was one of India's first pop singers of the 90s with more than 10 albums and the ability to sing in 17 languages. At the age of 15, she entered the Indian music scene with her hit single Hotline which also happened to be the first Indian single to be released. Soon she released her first album ‘Love Today Hai Nahi Asaan’ which became the highest-selling debut album of its time.
From Hindi pop, she went on to release her first English single Fever, followed by her second album ‘Nazuk Nazuk’ in 1996 featuring Oova Oova. Her second video Hoo Halla Hoo from the album was the first fully animated 3D video ever scripted by Anaida herself and produced in India. It won several awards including "Hope 96" for Best Animation.

She also teamed with Syrian singer/songwriter Shukri for an Arabic album ‘O Malu Malu’, the first original Arabic album by a Hindi pop artist produced in India. In 1997, she worked on a duet with Stefanos Korklis who dedicated a song to her titled Anaida sung in Greek and Hindi. She was also the first female Hindi pop artist to be featured on "Buddha Bar" with her song Good day to die sung in English.

Besides acting in several Bollywood films and making guest appearances in numerous television shows, she was also chosen by Walt Disney to sing Hakuna Matata (‘Lion King’) in Hindi.

Fast forward a few years, to when she was diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. But the award-winning celebrity chef, artist, inspirational speaker, decided to be strong and distract her mind that she could self-heal herself. This is when Tattva, a spiritual coloring book with a difference came to life.

For someone who has enthralled audiences much before the internet took over, Anaida’s music is still popular with kids and adults alike.
