Love is in the Air: Air Supply | Artist Shoutout

Love is in the air. Can’t express your love for that someone special? Let the music of Air Supply do the talking for you.
In May last year, the balladic duo comprising English singer-songwriter and guitarist Graham Russell and Australian tenor vocalist Russell Hitchcock completed 45 musical years together. Their meeting began in May 1975 in Melbourne, Australia where they were both performing in the musical ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’. In their time off, they began rehearsing together and found they greatly complimented each other, with Graham's compositions and Russell's four-octave range.
During the 1980's, Air Supply had eight Top 5 singles, four multi-platinum albums and was proclaimed the Most Successful Pop Group of the '80's by Billboard.
In 1988 the duo began working on ‘The Earth is…’ (1990) that brought in gold and platinum awards. This was followed by ‘The Vanishing Race’ (1993), which led to sold-out arenas everywhere from Sao Paulo to Singapore. Both albums reflected the duo's increasing concern for environmental issues.
The duo has visited India on three occasions, for the Channel V Music Awards in 1996 where they won Viewers Choice award, the album launch of ‘The Book of Love’ in November 1997 and at the BMG - Crescendo merger when they also duetted with singer Mehnaz in You are a bilingual (Hindi and English) soulful ballad for the movie soundtrack “Split Wide Open”. The song is on Air Supply’s ‘Yours Truly’ 2001 album.
