Harpist and Singer-Songwriter: Nush Lewis | Artist Shoutout

As an instrument of beauty in sound and looks, the harp not only looks elegant and eye-catching, it also sounds wonderful from the first notes plucked. Harpist and singer – songwriter Nush Lewis from Mumbai has been playing the harp for a while now.
Nush was born and raised in Kuwait and later moved to India. Music was something that she connected with exposed to from traditional Arabic music to Western pop music to even Bollywood. She moved to Bangalore to do her degree in Media, Literature and Psychology and then Chennai to take up music production in the KM Music Conservatory in Chennai where she joined as a vocal major. It was here that she heard the harp when her music teacher performed with it at a graduation ceremony. One class with the harp led to another and soon Nush was hooked to the instrument. She also realized that her vocal program was not making much progress for various reasons and this was the best alternative.
Nush, whose real name is Anoushka, had her first performance in Mumbai in 2011 for Sid Coutto’s solo album launch “Sunny Side Up”. After that she released a six track EP ‘Fused’ in 2015 with producer Ayan De that contained stuff she had penned down in the first two years of being a harpist. The music is moody and dark with a touch of surrealism. In 2017, she started her own arts education company Offset, to support arts education and creative development. She has also been a faculty member of various music schools.
In 2019 Nush released ‘Bridges’ her second EP that contained five songs, an art collaborative concept piece with artist Vaishnavi Kumar. During the pandemic she released Letters to Myself with Kamakshi Khanna and is now gearing up to release her third EP ‘Forgotten Verses’. Your heart will melt when you see her sitting angelically behind the world’s most glamorous instrument as she gives us a glimpse of the first single Stained.
